Student Council 2024 - 2025
Meet the PS 97 Q Student Council Team
The PS 97 Q Student Council is a powerful team of student leaders from grades 2 through 5 who proudly represent the voice of our school. These young change-makers are committed to standing up for what's right and inspiring their peers through action, compassion, and leadership.
Grounded in the NYC DOE's Civics for All initiative, the Student Council encourages active citizenship, student voice, and a deep sense of responsibility to their community and the world. Their mission is to rise as leaders who promote justice, kindness, and unity, and to empower every student to believe in their ability to lead and make a difference.
This year, the Council is spotlighting major civic and SEL (Social Emotional Learning) themes each month, including:-
- Democracy
- Embracing Kindness & Human Rights
- Unity & Diversity
- Leadership & Determination
- Mental Health Awareness
- Pride
- Climate Change.
Alongside these, they lead discussions and projects centered around essential SEL (Social Emotional Learning) values such as honesty, perseverance, resilience, and empathy. In their Human Rights: Stand Up and Speak Out podcast, council members address global and local issues, sharing their ideas and insights with the world. Through their Student Council YouTube Channel, they continue to use their voices to raise awareness, educate others, and stand up for causes that matter.
Whether through organizing service projects, leading school-wide assemblies, or mentoring younger peers, the PS 97 Q Student Council is committed to creating a school where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered to rise.
